Workshops · Manti, Utah

Two hours. No notifications. Just you, some soil, and a tree.

A beginner-friendly bonsai workshop in Sanpete County. Your phone stays in your bag, your hands get dirty, and the tree is going to be yours.

“Such a fun experience that is different than the usual night out. It’s a relaxed environment for anyone and easy to have conversation. Cassey and Landon were the perfect hosts and their knowledge and talent made this experience so great and memorable!”

What to expect

Two hours, start to finish.

No experience, no gear, no homework. Just a table, a tree and some good company.

  1. The phone goes face-down.

The table is screen-free. Nothing to check, nothing to post. Just your hands and what is in front of you.

  2. You choose your tree and your pot.

A dwarf jade, and a pot thrown by hand by Taya’s Clay Creations. No two are alike.

  3. We shape it together.

Landon walks you through soil, roots and your first cuts. No jargon, no wrong answers.

  4. It goes home with you.

Your tree keeps growing. Come back in six to nine months and we’ll shape it again.

What you take home

A tree, in a pot made by hand.

You go home with your own dwarf jade bonsai (Portulacaria afra) in a handmade pot from Taya’s Clay Creations, plus the care basics to keep it happy.

About tools: we provide them to use during the workshop, and they’re available to purchase if you want your own. They don’t come home with you as part of the workshop.

Return shaping sessions

Your tree keeps growing.

Come back six to nine months after your workshop and we’ll help you shape and train your tree as it grows. Bring it in, put the phone down again, and see what it has been up to.

Who it’s for

Anyone who could use a quiet table.

  • Complete beginners.

Never touched a bonsai? Perfect. That’s who this is for.

  • Couples and friends.

A good excuse to spend two hours together without a screen between you.

  • Gift-givers.

Give someone an afternoon and a tree. Ask us about gift certificates.

“We had such a fun date night making our Bonsai trees!! It was the cutest environment and we loved learning all about them! Both Landon and Cassey were super knowledgeable and helpful. Now we both have a cute little tree to watch grow. Would definitely recommend for a local date night!”

Questions

Good to know.

Do I need any experience?

None at all. If you can water a houseplant, you're overqualified. We walk you through every step.

What should I wear?

Clothes you don't mind getting a little soil on.

Can I bring a friend?

Please do — it's more fun with company. Register together so you're both in.

Are tools included?

Tools are provided for you to use during the workshop, and they're available to purchase if you want your own. They don't come home with you as part of the workshop.

What do I take home?

Your own dwarf jade bonsai in a handmade ceramic pot by Taya's Clay Creations, plus the care basics to keep it happy.

Do I really have to put my phone away?

We try to keep the table screen-free: two hours of hands, soil, and a tree. Your phone will be fine without you.

What happens after the workshop?

Come back for a return shaping session 6 to 9 months later, and we'll help you shape and train your tree as it grows.
